The Scottish Cup is heading to Grantown tonight (Thursday) as part of the Grantown 250 celebrations.
Former Scottish international player, Duncan Shearer will bring the silverware recently won by Inverness Caledonian Thistle to Seafield Park.
Shearer who played for Aberdeen and Chelsea now coaches Caley’s Under-20s team who will take part in a Beat the Goalie contest too.
Graeme Stuart who is a committee member of Strathspey Thistle and the Grantown Society and had helped to organise some of the sporting events for Grantown 250 said: “Since their win against Falkirk, the Caley team has been so busy, so to get them to come and visit us to help celebrate Grantown 250 really is a fantastic thing.
On tour
“They go back to full training on Thursday. The cup has been on tour and has been all over the Inverness region but now that they need to get ready for Europe. They have that on their minds now so this may be the last time the cup is toured in the area for some time before it’s put back in safe keeping to the display cabinet.”
He added: “Thursday will be short but sweet. They won’t have long so I would urge people to get to Seafield Park by 6.15pm sharp. I think they are only going to be here for an hour maximum, but I know when they are here they will make everyone welcome and there will be a chance for people to get pictures with the cup. The beat the goalie event should also be a lot of fun.”
One of the themes of Grantown 250: The Strathspey Seven Festivals is sport. Over the course of the week there have been a number of sporting events such as mountain bike rides, guided walks, orienteering and tennis.
At 5pm tonight (Thursday) Grantown Golf Club will host a Vintage Golf event followed by a women’s mountain bike ride at 7pm.
