Railways – Grantown West, Dava and Strathspey

Railways through Grantown on Spey

It is exactly fifty years since the last scheduled trains ran through Grantown’s East and West

stations. Apart from acknowledging that the railways were important to the town for 100 of its 250

years, 2015 is also the 150th anniversary of the Highland Railway Company. Appreciating the latter

point, The Strathspey Railway and The Dava Way of today will be displaying archive material in the

Grant Arms Hotel throughout the Grantown 250 Festival, ably supported by model railways recalling

the West and Dava stations.

On the respective Sunday afternoons (21st and 28th) specific family gatherings will be held,

particularly for young people wanting to drive the trains and receive a ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’

DVD. The Grant Arms Railway Exhibition is free, but donations would be welcome. Depending on

available personnel, the key daily times are 10am to midday: 2 to 4pm, and 7 to 9pm.
